VRanger VCB Offsite Backups

Hi

Currently using ESX 3.5, VRanger (latest version) doing VCB disk to disk backups over the SAN (LAN FREE). Usual headache of how to achieve offsite backups.

Bandwidth from the site to another site (WAN) is not possible. Looking at the following, any comments suggestions from the real world experience?

1. Backup exec starts at 5pm and does PRE script

2. PRE Script runs VRanger CLI command and backups up all VMs (Full Mon then DIFF all other days) to SAN volume

3. Once PRE script finishes, backup exec does FULL tape backup from SAN volume to tape Mon and DIFFs all other days

4. VRanger configured to maintain SAN volume and delete backups older than x amount of days

or the above using a solid state Ext SATA II connected drive as the offsite backup location.

Cheers

I presented a VMworld 2008 session on something similar to that. It involved vRanger, VCB and NetBAckup. I published a companion doc on VI:OPS -> http://viops.vmware.com/home/docs/DOC-1133

The only caveat is this: vRanger uses MOREF bt default, these change when a VM is restored.
