VMware ESX3.5 fails to detect HDD in onboard RAID

I'm trying to install ESX3.5 in Intel S5000PAL serverboard with RAID 1 configured on onboard ESB2 controller. Unfortunately it fails to detect HDD. In non RAID configuration installation is perfect. Is there any compatibility issue with S5000PAL onboard RAID. I can see this server board listed in compatibilty guide.

The board is on the HCL, but is the RAID controller on the HCL? There have been other posts as well about controllers where the RAID functionality does not abstract the hardware enough for the OS to see the logical array vs the physical drives that make up that array. Verify the controller is on the HCL, otherwise, you will be forced to buy a RAID controller that is on the list, or use the drives as individuals.
