VMware Converter 3.0.3 and optimized VMDK files

I'm using NetBackup 6.5.2 and VCB 1.1 to perform Full-VM backups of guest OS' on my ESX 3.5 servers.

My problem comes when restoring VM's...

When NetBackup backs up a VM it uses the -M 1 switch with vcbmounter to create a single monolithic file. This is not configurable.

NetBackup does give you the opiton to set the -F vcbmounter parameter to enable or disable vmdk optimization. We would like to use this and have selected it for our backups.

When we restore, NetBackup puts the snapshot back on the VCB proxy server fine. The problm is that VMware Converter says that the file is too large to perform the conversion. I have been told that you canot convert an optimised vmdk larger than 2GB. Is this true?

I don't see why Symantec would let you use vmdk optimization and only allow single monolithic files if the VMware Converter limit for optimized vmdk files was 2GB?

Can anyone confirm this limit?

Many Thanks.

hi wk1980

I saw the problem, even in 6.5.2a Netbackup.

However for slow performance check this http://seer.entsupport.symantec.com/docs/311193.htm
