Hi,
I am getting error when trying to VMotion between two IBM boxes;
I know it has to do with CPU not being compatible. I called VMware support; they
will not confirm if the new CPU will be compatible for VMotion with my current IBM
System x3650 797951U server. Below is the CPU info:
Also if any one can just post cat /proc/cpuinfo for IBM
System x3850 – server that is running Dual-Core Intel Xeon Processor
that should be enough to confirm VMotion compatibility.

You can use Vmotion between 7000,7100 and 5000 Intel Processors families with no issue (both 32 and 64 bit vms)
You can use Vmotion between 5100 and 5300 Intel processors Series families with no issue again! (bot 32 and 64 bit vms)
No way to use vmotion between 5140 and 7020 or 7040. I had the two servers few months ago and no way to do it, unless you want to play around with CPU masking that is not supported by vmware!
Vmotion works between old x366 (single core CPUs) and x3850 (dual core CPUs)......
can you do a cat /proc/cpuinfo from the target and host server and post it here please?

Issue resolved by turning on EVC.
