VMotion prerequisites Gigabit switch

Hi all

I know that I need a gigabit switch for Vmotion as per prerequisites but as I don't have one can I get away with 100MB switch?

Would VMotion work?

Thanks, Maelito

AFAIK no. This is due to higher latency in 100 mbit network.

Actually it will - I have done it but do to the latency you might see an impact to the running app - if it is only 2 esx hosts you can use a crossover cable for the vmotion network

I've used 100 MB switches in a lab environment, and vmotion will work. There will be a warning when you vmotion, but it will continue, and most vmotion will succeed. You will have some vmotion failures, and your vmotions will be slower in general, and the loss of pings will be higher than if you were on GB network, but it will work.
