VMWare licensing for testing enviroment

Hi everyone,

I have a question regarding to vmware licensing. We purchased 3 VI 3.5 Enterpise licenses for our production enviroment. All are used up by 3 hosts

Recently, i built a testing lab that simulates production enviroment. My main purpose is testing all patches before applying to production. I used evaluation license but it only limited to 90 days.

Now my question is can i use one of license that i purchased earlier? If yes, would it affect anything on production enviroment? Do i breach any licensing agreement?

I know microsoft provide MSDN for testing purposes as long as not apply to live. It would be greate if VMWare has same option.

Thanks for you help,

Tan.

You are required to license each ESX host, whether it is used for prod or development.

Yes, you'll be breaching your VMware licensing contract. You'll need to either purchase additional license for your test environment or continue to reinstall an evaluation copy to run your tests.
