Hello,
As i found out, the build number for ESX 3.5 Update 5 is "207095".
Currently, we have installed Build "213532", but i've never installed Update 5. Update 4 was installed and the Infrastructre was updated with Update Manager. So my question is....
VMWare View 4.0 needs VMWare ESX 3.5 Update 3 or 4, so in principle we have "only" Update 4 installed, but the build number is higher and complies with Update 5 and/or higher. So what is my real state now? Thanks for help.
Attached document will help you to upgrade the ESX server from 3.5 U4 to 3.5 U 5
What does "esxupdate query" show if you run it on the ESX host?
see if this helps as well

Ok, so you don't have update 5 installed just as you suspected. You do, however, have these post U5 updates installed.

This is the reason you have your current build number.
Ok...so, when an application like vmware view needs ESX3.5 Update 3 or 4 and may not be installed on UPdate 5, i MAY install vmware view on my actual esx installation (build) ?
I found
ESX 3.5.0 64607 20 Feb 2008
ESX 3.5.0 Update 1 82663 10 Apr 2008
ESX 3.5.0 Update 2 110268 13 Aug 2008

ESX 3.5.0 Update 4 153875 30 Mar 2009
ESX 3.5.0 Update 5 207095 03 Dec 2009
...always without any patches!

And how do you update you esx hosts?
Our ESX3.5 get their updates via InfrastructureClient UpdatePlugin. You have to create Baselines and assign them to the refered host. The VirtualCenterServermust be connected to the internet!
My private ESXi3.5 will be updated with the UpdateUtility (installed by installing Infrastructure Client)
Ok, but how does you baseline look like? I wonder why my ESX 3.5 Host doesn't seem to download complete Updates like Update 5.
Ok... cool. Thanks for the document!
