We have a very strange behavior with virtual machines we tried to run on different HW.
The symptom is: on Platform 1 the linux kernel inside the guest recognizes the disk correctly. On Platform 2 the linux kernel inside the guest has problems, does recognizes it somewhat but with errors...
Is there any know issue / problem with the disk abstraction layer and how ESX presents the disk to the guest if you move from one HW set to another?
Details:
we exported the virtual machines with vmkfstools -i -d 2gbsparse from a HP-Blade460C with direct attached SATA disks
copied the VMfiles
imported the vmdk files, vreated a new VM, attached the disks.
(same driver in the VMX file for the disks (lsilogic)
new HW platform is Proliant DL360G4 with direct attached Scsi Disk.
It does look a bit like there are differences how ESX presents the disk, which means there are dependencies.
What do I miss here?
