VM not reachable after migration - Cisco switch problem?

Hello,

when we migrate a VM, its sometimes not reachable with ping after the migration. When the VM send data into network, the pings works again.

We have two ESX 3.01 hosts with all patches installed. Every host have six network cards. Three of this cars are connected to the first switch, the other three cards are connected to another switch. We have Cisco Catalyst 6509 switches. All 12 ports are configured with the same vlans (trunks).

On the ESX hosts, we activated in the properties "NIC Teaming" the option "notify switches".

I tested another configuration: Every host have only the three cars active, which are on the same switch. The other three cards are passive. We have with this configuraiton NO problems!

Can you help us with this problem? It seems to be a problem with the MAC adresses and ARP tables?!

Sorry for my bad english.

Thanks and regards from Germany,

Jan

This could be a MAC / ARP caching problem with your switches.

Check that the "Notify switches" is configured in the NIC teaming settings of the vSwitch.

If it is set (default) check if you can modify the MAC caching of the physical switches.
