VM frozen - Cannot Stop or Start

Hi,

A VM in my environment is showing up as being powered on however it's not and is in a frozen state.

When I try to power it off I get the following message: "Operation failed since another task is in progress".

I have done the following with no results:

1. On the ESX host I did vm-support-x followed by vm-support -X 1234 - VM ID

This didn't seem to stop. It was left at a command line - Preparing files for over 60 minutes

2. Tried the Stop & Stop hard command and the following message:

VMControl error -999: Unknown error: SoapError: ServerFaultCode(0) : (Operation failed since another task is in progress.)

3. I restarted the VC Server Service

4. I tried pkill command also and no joy!

I cannot restart the host so can anyone think of anything else I can do.

Would appreciate any help guys.

try to restart management services on host that is keeping this VM:

service mgmt-vmware restart

service vmware-vpxa restart

service vmware-vmkauthd restart

Thanks. Will restarting any of these services affect running VM's on the host?
