VM - Ultrium - SAS

Hi all,

my question is, can I give to a virtual machine an internal Ultrium SAS device? is necessary an special configuration?

Thanks in advance.

You can provide a tape drive to a vm, but you need an Adaptec controller. This does not always work very well, but it has worked for others: http://communities.vmware.com/thread/74144

I'd recommend doing a search for tape drive in a vm for more info. The link I posted should get you started.

Hi,

I manage HP Proliant 380 (ESXi) with external Ultrium unit.

After attaching the unit via U320 SCSI port (SmartArray controller) I had to restart the server. While booting the server recognized the Ultrium drive. I was able to add SCSI device to 1 virtual machine and the backup to tape from this virtual machine is possible.

Hope that helps,

Andrej
