VLAN issues

Ok let me understand how does VLAN trunking works, I have ESX 3.5 but I remembered that in ESX 2.5 there was an Advanced Setting that enable/disable the 802.1q VLAN trunking, but now I dont see it !!! is there an option to disable it?

Ok the Networking team and I set a VLAN ID 180 to a specific virtual switch and the VMs are pingable... it works, but the networking team told me that I need to setup another VLAN iD now the 204 to the same virtual switch so I tried it and it does not let me to type any comma, slash, hyphen..........what do I need to do to add a second, third, fourth...... VLAN ID to the same Virtual Switch ?

Hi,

Port groups are like placing the VM interface on a VLAN. In this case you have assigned VLAN 180 to a portgroup and any VM that connects to it will be on 180.

If you need to see more than one VLAN on a portgroup you have to assign VLAN 4095 on the port group which tells the vSwitch to forward all VLAN's to that portgroup, However it not a recommended practice for production systems.

Mike
