Off-topic perhaps but has anyone who took the beta exam got their result?

My 2 Cents -

First read this (yes it is updated) - http://mylearn1.vmware.com/lcms/mL_faq/482/VCPonVI3.pdf

Take the Class - This is required unless you currently hold a VCP. All of the details are in the document noted above.

For studying, pratical hands on knowledge of the product is essential! It is much easier to pass when you know how to perform certain tasks and confiugrations.

Read the documentation - http://www.vmware.com/support/pubs/vi_pubs.html

Re-read the the course material - Believe it or not, there is useful information in there. If you are like me, you have to physically take notes as you go through the material.

Relax! I can say from the VCP 2.X certification, it is a fair exam. If you know the product and properly prepare, you should be fine. If you do happen to fail, there's probably a reason for it. It happens to us all sooner or later.

I have scheduled my exam for the 23rd of the month to allow myself time to read the documentation, take notes and practice some tasks that I have yet to implement in production.

Good luck to all and I will report my experience as best as I can.

Hey took my VI3 exam today and passed. It was hard but if you know your stuff and with hands on knowledge.

I heard on Friday it was being released on Monday 02 October in the UK so I booked it. Didn’t get much time to study, so pleased to have passed.

Good luck to everyone who takes the new VI3 VCP exam

Know your roles and what you can do in each role within VC

I used the VI3 documentation on VMware website and colleagues Vi3 manuals.

congratulations kevingj. I took the VCP310 exam on monday as well. Seemed more difficult than the VCP101E/V exams (I did both, VCP101E in 2004, VCP101V in 2005), but very doable with the necessary experience.

Strange thing: Pearson Vue says the passing score is 70, and the VMware announcement said 75. Also, as the score is no longer tied to the percentage of correct answers (the questions are weighed now), is there a maximum score ? I.e. can one score above 100 ?

regards,

Bert

Well done to you also Bert, you are right I also took the VCP101V it was very doable with the right hands on experience. I did also see the passing score on the VMware site mmmmmmmm! Not sure why there is that discrepancy in passing scores.

I felt some of the questions were ambiguous and found 6 questions at least had conflicting answers even with experience I found them very difficult and any studying wouldn’t have prepared me for those ambiguous questions.

ambiguous questions indeed. Not a new problem though, I felt there were ambiguous questions in VCP101V as well. Maybe it has to do with phrasing and interpreting the English language ? I don't know. There were only a couple of questions that I couldn't decide on, and the resulting score was still more than sufficient, so no complaints here Smiley Wink

passed VCP 310 today.

Questions are a bit harder than VCP 101.

Know about VirtualCenter rights and the requirements for VMotion.

Some questions about limitations of VMware ESX occured as well.

Greets,

Dennis

Guys thanks for the pointers, if you think of any others they would be greatly appreciated.

Is there much about the new commands for the service console?

In the past each question was worth one mark, now the more complex will have say 10 and easy ones say 1, your score will be your marks as a percentage of the total marks for the questions you were presented. Questions are weighted but score>100% not possible.

Hmm.. Wish I had known about that weighted point scoring before doing those calculations this morning to see how many I could miss and still pass! I marked 6 or 7 questions to come back to later and couldn't help but try to calculate the %'s if I answered those ones wrong. Ohh well, would have like to get higher, but an 87 will do. Cheers.

All,

Hello...I am new to Vmware. I took the VI3 course and waited several weeks for the exam. Just sat through exam last night. FAILED Smiley Sad Noticed several questions NOT covered in student guide from class, but have found them since in the online manuals and pdf's. My best advice...DO NOT RELY On YOUR COURSE MATERIALS ALONE. Will retake very soon...

Feel free to e-mail me if you want specific examples...

Thanks all...

Can those that have taken the exam post or re-post the topics that are most covered? Maybe this will help everyone who is still waiting to take it.

I sorry to hear you misfortune but not being rude to you, but you will need to have real world experience to take and pass the exam. This is not a dig at you personally but it's a specialist area and we don't really want VMware being labelled like Microhard i.e freshers or paper vcp's.

So I can be constructive with my criticism, the course will give you a bases to work from, then read the manuals use the product on a daily bases understand virtualisation and the concepts. The exam does have questions that will throw you I know that I found it hard to.

Does anyone know what the minimum VCI score is for the VI-3 exam ? I got 86% this morning, which was enough for VCI ESX 2.x but is it enough now ? I cannot get that confirmed anywhere ...
