Hi Folks,
Question from left field but does anyone recommend a Test Package to buy for going for VCP 3 Certification. Have been involved with the product and done the course bit was after a package that simulated exam questions.
Cheers Norm
Good day mate,
I have done both the old VCP 2 and the VCP 3 I had only the course manuals and some experience using and installing ESX and VI3 and I passed. Read the documentation, especially about the parts you don't use or do so often and remeber the things you do when installing VI3 and VC.
Should be alright for passing the exam.
There was, a website some time ago http://www.vmwareprofessional.com/ where you could answer some testquestions and get them evaluated. But I just checked and the site seemed no longer online.

Hello,
I am VMware Certified Instructor and I do recommend my students to get the blue print document http://mylearn1.vmware.com/lcms/mL_faq/528/VCP%20on%20VI3%20Blueprint.pdf and use it as guide for their study. That document describes the exam and what do you should study and from each manual for each exam module.
Use the HCL of the product for VI 3 and for all other products, because you will have question from other products, at least read the datasheets of the products and if you have time, the administration guide from VMware workstation and/or VMware server.
I would like to wish you a good study and good luck.
Cheers
is it http://www.vmprofessional.com/ you're talking about ? Still exists !
Hi all,
When I was studying for the exam I found some differences in some documents.. for example in the
http://www.vmware.com/pdf/vi3_301_201_config_max.pdf
you can see 127 for maximus virtual switches and not 248!
or 2 parallel port instead of 3..
It could be quite difficult study with ERRORS in vmware "original documentation"
bye.
Mstella, there's been some confusion here and there, but I think we should stress that studying for a VCP exam is \_not_ about getting all these little numbers in your head. Learn how the different ESX services fit together and how each resource (CPU, memory, disk, network) gets provided to the VM, how these services get translated: from the commands the VM sends to the virtual hardware, through to the VMkernel performing stuff on the physical hardware.
NB I'm a VMware instructor as well, just as GCR above. We're in the unusual situation of seeing the VMware courses several times a month, so our view on the exam might not be average. On the other hand, we do see a lot of people, from different backgrounds, and how they absorb the material.
Having done them both, id strongly recommed getting your hands on a Lab of sorts, to pass you ill need expierience as well as the manuals..
Amounst others, the Server Guide was well worth a good read..!!
Good Luck..
practical experience will \_definitely_ help. If you have the chance to work with the product before doing the exam, TAKE that chance !
Hi,
had the wrong link, though I could swear they had my link as well, sorry.
Harro,
I agree, but my teacher told me that it was important study all the "maximus values" in order to pass the exam..
Anyway... last week I passed the VCP310 test.
bye
All the documentation, whitepapers and technical resources on the vmware website are useful.
The documentation roadmap gives you a summary of where to find the various items to study from: http://www.vmware.com/pdf/vi3_301_201_roadmap.pdf
In my optinion the course alone is not enough for the exam.
You need experience to pass the exam.
