VCB installation

Dear guys,

i have a single host with ESX 3.5 and foundation license.

I'm wondering if i can built up VB server as i have the license bultin.

I made a search and i found this :

  • Windows 2003 Server

  • iSCSI or FC connection from that server to the SAN where the VMware ESX Server Guest virtual disks are stored

  • Virtual Center Server on the network

  • Lots of disk space

  • License for VCB configured on the license server and activated for each VMware ESX Host system that you will be backing up VMs on

everything is clear but do i really need Virtual center for having this in place?

Many thanks in advance.

Daniele

You do not need to have a vCenter Server.

Just install your Windows VCB proxy and point directly to the ESX host.

Then enjoy with scripting Smiley Wink

HI,

It would be easier to manage if you install Vcenter server while configuring VCB with Symantec BackupExec 12.. Having 12.5v of backup Exec will aviod the need for scripting and all you need to do is to point the backup proxy to the vcenter server and configure backup .

Cheers!
