VCB RDM Snapshot issues

HI.

We have had various problems with using VCB integrated with netbackup to backup our Virtual servers. Our main problem at the moment is with backing up large RDMs (In virtual mode).

Can anyone tell me if a virtual mode RDM drive gets quiesced during a snapshot?

Thanks

VMware tools forces the Guest OS to flush buffers and than complete VM is quiesced. So I suppose YES.

Thanks for the link.

We had a problem this week when a few of our larger RDMs ( 1TB+) were being

backed up. The backup was taking some time to complete therefore allowing

more time for more changes to take place causing the delta files to grow.

These larger delta files used up available space on the LUNs and caused the

guest servers being backed up to crash.

Other than having a lot more space available on the LUNs, has anyone else

experienced a similar situation and can offer suggestions or solutions?

The only suggestions I have are to increase the speed of disks under the VMDK and RDMs, or to increase the connection speed from the backup server to the SAN. Faster disks would help it consolidate the disks faster, that is not your current problem but could help with other things. Faster connection to the SAN would help the backup finish faster thus preventing the snapshots from getting as large as they are getting.
