Hi,

You can get VCB licensed with License server , which can be used by your VC or can be by the standalone ESX. ESXi can also use the same mechanism. However if you don't want to use License server then you can go with Host based license file that yoy can use directly on the ESX server.

Is VCB purchsed as an additonal license or is it free when you have ESX 3.5 and ESXi???

VCB is included in the foundation licence upwards.

If you just had ESXi hosts how would you go about licensing VCB??

Are you using the free esi license?

You will need to buy a foundation license.
