Hello,
I have been reading some documents about migrating an Vmware infraestructure with 3.5 and 4.1 hosts and one Vcenter, to the lastes one, in 2 new servers with a new array.
The process could be:
- Install ESXi 5 in the 2 new servers.
- Create datastores with vmfs 5.0 in the new array.
- Create vcenter 5 in the new platform.
- Migrate the virtual machines from the old platform to the new one.
the last step is the one I have more questions. The best way is copy then by the network, connect with the new vcenter the old ones ESX, and then just Migrate, or using some third application utility, like veeam, or similar, to clone it?.
Greetings
Welcome to the Community - hopefull one of the documents you have reviewed is the upgrade guide - http://pubs.vmware.com/vsphere-50/topic/com.vmware.ICbase/PDF/vsphere-esxi-vcenter-server-50-upgrade....
If you will be licensed for storage vmotion the best way is to add the 3.5 hosts to the new vcenter 5 environment and storage vmotion the vms to the ESSXi 5 hosts -
