Hi,
We have the following situation:
- 2 ESX 3.5 hosts
- Dedicated VMotion Vswitch created
- NIC's that are used for VMotion are directly connected to each other with fibre 10Gb
When I try to vmkping the hosts I get no reply. VMotion isn't working. It's timing out on 10%.
Name resolution is ok.
Service Consoles are able to ping each other (different subnet is used for SC).
Any ideas?
Regards,
Aico
Are the nics you're using supported, and are all drivers installed.
Check http://www.vmware.com/download/vi/drivers_tools.html
Can you check the physical connectivity (lights on the adapters)
Hi,
Sorry for the late reply. Both NICS are supported. Latest supported drivers are installed. VC recognizes the NICS. Lights are on. No VMKPing.
What are their respective IP Addresses?

Have you tried using these adapters for something else?
Try creating additional service console port groups on the switches using the adapters, and pinging on those.
Can you provide all details on the connection? (adapter make/model, network addresses,...)
Hi legendary,
Directly connected(crossover) topologies have some gateway issues.
Please try connecting over switched LAN and send us the result.
Good luck.
Hi,
The problem has been solved. It was hardware related. After turning of the power for a few seconds on my second host and physically disconnecting the power cord for a few seconds it started working after a cold boot.
Thank you for all your help.

Aico
