Unable to rename VMFS storage

Hello

I have a VMFS LUN shared by 3 ESX 301 hosts that contains VM data but the VMs are not powered on.

I want to rename the VMFS but when I connect to one of the hosts using VI client, Configure>Storage right click and rename, the storage immediately reverts to the original name?

Does anyone know if there is a way to do this without removing and re-adding the LUN?

Possibly I need to shutdown two of the hosts so there is only one host accessing the LUN at the time of the rename?

Any other ideas?

Thanks

If you do it form virtualcenter do you have the same issue? remember to rescan form all hosts.

VC sometimes refuses to apply the new name (for whatever reason).

What worked for me, is to stop the VC service, edit the SQL Table dbo.VPX_DATASTORE directly and started the VC service again. It is the hardcore way, but as the GUI refused to do it that was the only way that worked.

Yes, it is the same from Virtual Centre....

I decided to give this one last go and it actually worked from VC, which definately didn't work before. The rename worked and it also updated the vmx files of VMs with vmdk's on that LUN.
