Hi,
I have installed the Virtual Center server and the License server on one machine with connection to MSSQLserver 2000 SP4 (local). While installing, I also specified the license file that I downloaded from my account. But for some reason, the virtual center server is not seeing the file and I am unable to create any VMs.
Please help!
Thank you
Naresh
The problem is, I am not able to add the host itself because while doing "Add host" I get the message saying I do not have enought licenses to oerform the task and the "Add host" wizard ends without adding the host.
Ok did you purchase Virtual Center agent licenses to go along with your VC license and your ESX host license?
OK let me show you my license file. I already had ESX 2.5.4 license and I redeemed it for VI3.

That looks good for
One VC Management Server
4 CPU ESX Host
4 CPU VC Management Agents
4 CP VMotion
So under the Virtual Center client Admin, Licenses tab you don't show any remaining licenses nor do you show any total licenses?
NO I dont see any license under that tab.
When I did a status enquiry on LMtools, I get the following:

And diagonostics gave this:

The file was issued for a later version of FLEXnet Licensing than this

OK I think i got it. I deleted my license and recreated them and specified the new license file and reread the license file. Mow I see the licenses on the License Tab. and It let me add the host. but it gave another error mesage saying Failed to Install virtualcenter Agent service and the host is in disconnected state.
OK fixed that too.!! created the vmware-root folder on /tmp with chmod 700 and everything worked as required.
Thanks a lot for all your support!!
Glad everything is working now.
oops!! now that the host is connected, I am not able to power on the VMs...getting the same error message "not enough licenses"
Now that the host is added you need to make sure you tell the host where the license server is, as we discussed earlier in the thread. Under configurat tab use the license features area to set server based license and specify the correct license server and assign the types of licenses you want to allocate.
i edited the license type under host configuration and now I can do what I need. Thank you and sorry for the dumb hasty post!
Well, I don't know about anyone else, but this solution:
Did you run VMware License Server tools located uner Start, programs, vmware, vmware license server and look under the Config Services tag. There is a place to specify the location of the license file there. i would verify that my license file is placed in that path and then restart the services.
fixed the problem I was having! Thanks! ![]()
