Unable to install Centos 6 - Kernel Panic on boot

Hi there,

I'm trying to install a Centos 6 Minimimal install guest on one of ESX 3.5.0 servers running build 110268.

Whenever I start the VM, it Panic's at the very beginning after selecting an install method.

Enabling earlyprintk gives:

Centos6 Panic.png

The bottom line reads:

RIP dmi_string_nosave+0x3e/0x89

Any ideas how I can proceed?

Cheers

Gav

I've had no issues with running Centos 5 on the same ESX hosts...

Created the VM in exactly the same way as I would a Centos 5 guest...

It appears to be a kernel compatibility issue, as i've also tried RHEL 6 which resulted in the same panic...

I'm having the same issue installing CentOS 6.2 x86_64.  Other people are reporting the same issue when you web search with "vmware kernel panic centos 6".  I'm trying it on XP with Workstation 6.5.5 (I know it is old, but haven't been approved an upgrade yet)

Going to try on a ESX 4.0.0 server to see what happens.
