Tape devices directly attached to ESX server

Does anyone know if connecting a tape devices directly to a ESX server (e.g. a tape device to a SCSI adapter on the physical server where ESX is installed) is supported?

Please let me know of any available documentation.

This method is not recommended because it utilizes Service Console resources that are critical to the function of ESX Server.

Hello,

Have you considered iSCSI tape devices like ADIC or Cybernetics etc. This would be transportable for VMotion and HA/DRS etc.

Hi,

It is supported. We are running with a scsi card and a tape drive in most of our branch offices where they have a single ESX server.
