Taking Virtual Machines Inventory

Hi,

We are getting some projects who have hundres of VM's & Clustered ESX hosts.

We want to collect the configuration details of all VM's like memory, hdd size, number of CPU's, number of NIC's etc..

1. Is there any tools available to collect all these information.

2. In case of ESX failure, after reinstalling ESX what are files I need to copy from working ESX so that this will contain all vswitch configuration details.

1) Veeam reporter can be used to help document your existing environment.

2) Isn't so easy - see this thread.

You can easily create custom reports about all your VM's with the VI Toolkit.

There are more than 1000 fields on a VM level on wich you can report.. for example memory/cpu reservation and limt, ip-address, hostname etc. etc.

you can do much more than reporting with the VI Toolkit and it is free ..
