Suggestions for UPS connectivity in 3.5 ?

Trying to gracefully shutdown multiple 3.5 hosts in event of power loss and then drained UPS.

Using APC SmartUPS 3000 (multiple units) and factory USB (server side) and RJ45 (UPS side) connectors.

Any suggestions on how others are handling graceful shutdowns?

I tried APC's network shutdown but it is not yet compatible with 3.5 per APC.

Also tried apcupsd but no luck with the usb cable.

What are others doing for this in 3.5?

One of my customers used one physikal box which receives the shutdown request via usb etc. and then starts ssh connections to all ESX with a shutdown command.
