Strange behavior of my VMNIC -> always UP

Hi,

Im running esx 3.0.1 with the last patch on an HP c-class systems. For 6 ESX, all work fine. But for 3 esx, some vmnic always stay up, whenever the switch is down and out of the blade center!

I've two vswitch :

\- vswitch0 : service console (vlan id 2 ) & VMotion (vlan id 302 )

\- vswitch1 : vmnetwork_1 (vlan id 101) & VMnetwork_2 (vland id 102)

The problem is always on the vswitch1. I've tried reboot, service mgmt-vmware restart, remove and recreate the switch... no way...

Anybody can help me?

How many uplinks does vSwitch1 have?

I never experienced that kind of problems while I'm doing mostly c-Class systems.

Hi Vliegenmepper,

Each blade has 6 ethernet port. 2x On board port and one mezzanine card with 4 ports.

The problem occur with the two first port of the mezzanine card (hpnc325m) :

\ | v |--

mezz eth 1----port 14 cisco 3020 bay 5

\ | s |--

mezz eth 2----port 14 cisco 3020 bay 6

\ | w|

\ | i |

\ | t |

\ | c |

\ | h |

\ | 1 |

If I shutdown or remove the switch int the bay 6, the vmnic are always on.

Thank you for your help

Vincent
