Start VM from console.

Hi quick question for a noob....

What command can be used from the console to start a VM?

I just want to know just in case VCS, which is also a VM, is unavaiable for whatever reason.

in ESX use

vmware-cmd /vmfs/volumes/DATASTORE/name_of_vm/name_of_vm.vmx start

as far as i know there is no command but i take it you are using the VI Client to connect to your VC Server if your VC server goes done use the VI Client to connect to the ESX Host directly and then you can power VMs on or off

use vmware-cmd command for VM operations

Syntax: /vmware-cmd <cfg> start ( here cfg is the VM configuration file)

For more informaton: vmware-cmd -h

Cheers guys. That works. bit of a pain having to type the storage identifyer string, but can live with that!!

vmware-cmd -l will list all the configuration files of existing VMs
