Solaris x86 on VMware???

Has anyone ran Solaris x86 on VMware with any luck? It seems to work well but I am curious if anyone has gone to production or another real world environment with the solution? If so, how did you move the application(s) off of SPARC? I assume a new install?

I can't remember if Solaris x86 is one of the Supported VMware O/Ss - I believe it is. The challenge that I've run into most with migration from Solaris/Sparc to Intel VMs is that I have certain applications that only run on Solaris/Sparc. Solaris x86 does not have any way to run Sparc binaries, so you need some other program to do the translation. I found one called QuickTrasit by a company called Transitive that does Solaris/Sparc to Linux/x86_64 or Solaris/Sparc to Solaris/x86_64 translation. (They're also the ones who did Apple's Rosetta software for PPC to Intel.)

Thanks Nick. We are looking at them too but it seems like the migration from SPARC to x86 is the biggest issue here, not VMware. Agree?

Anyone else looking at this?
