Hi guys,
I run into a problem - I had a VM with a decent amount of snapshots - let's say 20. I used the "Delete All" option to free up some space. During the process an error was displayed - time out. Now eveything is fine except for the snapshot manager does not see that there are snapshots available and now I cannot delete them without data loss. Please can anyone tell me how can I make them visible again?
the "delete all" is doing what you said to do and commiting all your snaps. The time out error is normal, especially with the amount of snapshops, but the process is running in the background, but may take awhile to fully commit.
You are trying to recover a snapshop that was deleted?
No. The snapshot were deleted only from snapshot manager. I can see the files on the datastore and manaully revert to any snapshot I want to (by editing the .vmx and some other files). I can delete these files manually, but this would cause the machine to go back to the state when it was created. When I delete them from snapshot manager it should merge all the snapshots to the vmdk file to ensure there is no data loss. Now I want to make the Snapshot Manager see these snapshots so I can safely delete them. I can think of a workaround but it is last option.
like I said, if you choose the "delete all" option, it may take awhile. Give it a couple hours and then check back to see if all snaps are still present. Trying to revert to a snapshot during the "delete all" process may cause problems.
if you shutdown the guest and cold migrate it to another host it will complete the snapshot process.
This happened yesterday! I wouldn't wirte in the blog if I hadn't tried everything I can think of. I will try cold migrating, thanks. I wonder what would happen if I make a copy of the virtual machine? Would it be with consistent data and without any snapshots
