Setting up Opensolaris as an ISCSI Target

Install OpenSolaris >= Build 60

Install a full developer copy.

When the system is finished installing

Run the following commands

iscsitadm modify admin -d /export/home

This will put all iSCSI containers in /export/home

iscsitadm create target -z 10g test

Create a Target named Test thats 10GB

Thats it. Setup ESX and scan for LUNs as normal.

I've got this setup but I'm not getting the performance expected.

iSCSI target Opensolaris b65 - ZFS raidz 4x500GB with 2 GB nics aggregated.

HP Procurve 1800 GB switch with trunking on two ESX Servers, 2 GB nics in a virtual switch. Set to "IP-hash"

Separate LAN for iSCSI - 192.168....

No problem detecting target, but write/read seldom tops 4MB/s on OpenSolaris side.

Am I expecting to much from from Software iSCSI ??

Did you use Hardware HBA or software iscsi ? I'm using regular nics and getting slow performance (se my earlier post)

Roman,

No joy on the DU.iso from that website with Solaris Express Community Edition build 68. I get "No Driver Updates found." with that disk in the drive. I'm thinking about reinstalling Solaris 10 11/06, installing all the updates and then doing a LiveUpgrade to Nevada build 68. There's a newer HP Smart Array 6400 driver for Solaris 10 out there now - 1.71. I did try modifying my floppy and renaming the sol210 directory to sol211 and updating the release.def file to the same. It's possible my woes stem from the fact that I'm using ILO to mount my media (although it works for Solaris 10). Ah well.
