Service console switch timeouts

This problem started after trying to connect to a VM on one of esx hosts. The console would time out. Vmotioning the VM to a different host would solve this problem but any machine on the original host showed the same symptoms. They could still be reached via ping and seemed to function, but console and rdp was no longer possible

During the moving of the other VMs another error popped up saying that a time out occurred with an IP number. That IP belonged to the NIC assigned to the virtual switch for the service console.

What are the best practices for determining if a NIC is still functioning properly?

are you sharing the same physical nic for service console and vm's? it sounds like you might be given rdp does not work which would by default use the vm virtual switch rather than the service console virtual switch unless they both use the same pnic.

Single physical nic dedicated to this service console switch. All VMs are on a different switch with different dedicated nics
