Service Console Backups

Hey guys.

I've got an ESX server that I need to setup data protector to backup on. (not VCB yet, just backing up some of the VMDK files via the service console)

The service console has 1 dedicated pnic going across the production LAN.

I've got another pnic for backups, assigned to a backup subnet with another static IP for it.

How do I configure the backup nic in the service console? Create a Service Console 2 and assign the pnic to that service console?

What about the different gateways? (SC0 goes out a different gw than SC1)

Service Console --> vSwitch0 ---> vswif0 -->vmnic0

Service Console for Backups --> vSwitch3 -->vmnic4

"Object reference not set to an instance of an object" when I try to make changes to the backup console's gw settings from the VC client.

Do I add a route-vswif1 ?

Thanks!

Hi..

You can only have one default IP gateway configured for SC.... you'll have to put SC2 on the same subnet as your backup device..

I was afraid that might be the case, but in our network they throw the backups on a different subnet and gateway.

I did see something in the VC client when I edit that console switch about routing... going to play with that some.

My team mates explain it should work this way as it can ping the gw, no route table needed and should go out the other nic as designed.

Will let you know when I get DP configured on there.

Thanks!
