Dudes,
My ESX server often gets restarted. When i explore the /var/log/messages i could see that syslogd does it.

Any idea, why this happens? Need your sggestions to overcome this.
Dudes,
Service console is configured to get IP from DHCP server, is this a problem?
If so I have another ESX server which is also configured to take IP from DHCP server, but i don't have problem with this server.
Please help ....
If you can help it do not use DHCP for the SC. It is supported, sure, but this makes it more likely that you will have name resolution issues and other prblems. Set your SCs with a static IP addresses.
Thanks for your response,
I have reserved the MAC address in the DHCP server, hence the service console always gets the same IP every time it tries to renew.
So i hope that there should not be any DNS issues. Moreover i don't have any issues with the other ESX server.
I strongly believe that this should not be the cause for the restart.
I do not see why using DHCP would cause a problem, but in general I do not do things different from the standard unless there is a compelling reason. When you do that you tend to find the bugs nobody else notices
Hello,
syslogd periodically restarts as well. Nothing untoward about this. It happens on most Linux systems. If klogd restarts, that suggests that the SC has rebooted. I would not worry about syslogd restarting at all.
