Where does svmotion log its' errors? Anyone know?
For troubleshooting Storage VMotion, take a look at the following logs in the Service Console.
/var/log/vmkernel
/var/log/vmkwarning
/var/log/vmware/hostd.log
/var/log/vmware/vpx/vpxa.log
The most important of the log files mentioned above will be the hostd.log and vmkernel log files.
I hope this is what you are looking for.

VirtualCenter will log the errors in 'Events' for the VM being SVMotioned.
The VC logs are helpful but do not point me in the right direction. I really need a location in the SC to look. Do you know what I mean?

Hostd was it. Although the svmotion still fails!
Have you filed a Support Request yet?
yes sir. I will let you know what they say.
Support acknowledged an issue they are actively working on but would not give details. They said a patch would be available soon.
Here is the error I found in the log but they pinpointed as what they are working on fixing:
DMotion: Failed to unstun VM after disk reparent.
You have thin provisioned volumes or snapshots on those volumes, I'm betting.
--Matt
Or VMs provisioned from a thin provisioned template 😜
no thin and no snapshots....
interesting...
I had also no thin templates but a snapshot occruring (from esXpress) while svmotion.
on the end of svmotion: crash of vm --> failed to unstun...in the log
Testing showed me:
1. Snapshot Manger: GoTo brings the "Complete Migration" to the VIC and after clicking this all is :).
2. Snapshot Manger: DeleteAll no "Complete Migration" at all oo the VIC. :_|
This makes sens because step 1 brings the vmdk(s) back to the stae when svmotion did start and step 2 not.

The issue of another process creating a snapshot during Storage VMotion is covered in KB 1003114: http://kb.vmware.com/kb/1003114.
