The requirements for SCSI passthrough on ESX, which I think is your intention, is quite strict.

- No support for multi LUN SCSI devices on SCSI pass-through devices (tapes).

- Only Adaptec SCSI cards are supported for pass-through devices. (see VMware HCL)

Is your card on the HCL?

hi ctfoster

My card is QLA2344. It is supported in ESX 3.0.1 as per VMware HCL (i/o compatibility guide under ).

Thanks

Being on the HCL for local/SAN VFMS attached storage is not the same as being approved for SCSI passthrough for a VM. I don't know what your intention is but ESX Server versions 1.x and 2.x do not support connecting fibre attached tape drives to the ESX Server or virtual machines. However having said that 'supported' and 'working' are two different things. Have a search around the forum for people doing the same thing.
