Rescue a VMFS partition

Hi All,

Im cross posting in ESX 4 as well ( as install was on 3.5 ) but issue is the same I think.

So, for an unknown reason, the system has crashed.

my colleague tried to reinstall the system, asking to keep the VMFS partition.

From  this point, maybe there was some changes applied on the 1st partition i  assume... the point is that we can not install the system anymore as it  syas no more space ...strnage..what ever...

So, now finally the question !  :

How can I check if the VMFS partition is still here on the disk ( or lost maybe, but want to ensure at 100% )

IF,  the partition is still here, how can I transfers the VM on it to  another storage ( via FTP, maybe USB storage ..Etc..what ever ...)

thanks for your help !

We managed to re-install a 3.5 ( It says we are in audit mode )

When we click on add storage, here what we have ( screenshot )

For me, it do not recognize VMFS ...why ? any idea ? or my understanding is false ?

Thx

Hi LionelM,

Service console did the trick - found this helpful article which walked me through it.

Example output:  VMFS-3.33 file system spanning 1 partitions. File system label (if any): DatastoreName Mode: public Capacity 145223581696 (138496 file blocks * 1048576), 43937431552 (41902 blocks) avail UUID: 4a14d968-88bf7161-700f-00145ef48f76 Partitions spanned (on "lvm"):    mpx.vmhba0:C0:T0:L0:5 .

If at first you don't succeed; call it version 1.0"
