Recover deleted/corrupt vmfs volume

Ok I have a bit of a problem here

On out esx we have a volume called vmfs_data and it went missing last week for little or no reason it's now causing us big problems

inside /vmfs/volumes the link is still there "vmfs_data -> 46f93ef7-7539f303-1457-0016358244b0" but it points to nowhere

nor is it inside "/vmfs/devices/lvm"

fdisk can see the partition on /dev/sdf

Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System

/dev/sdf1 * 1 39162 314568701 fb Unknown

is there a way to re mount this ?

Thanks

I understand from your posting, that LUN is visible. Try this thread http://communities.vmware.com/thread/125557

You may want to try to EnableResignature=1 under advanced setiings on host (See attached screenshot). Then rescan

Hi Shan

Had read that thrread before posting and it's just not the same

i did look at my "/var/log/vmkwarning" and found this

May 15 11:08:30 esx-yb15-01 vmkernel: 23:19:03:51.511 cpu3:1041)WARNING: Fil3: 9613: Found invalid object on 46f93ef7-7539f303-1457-0016358244b0 <FD c5597 r991> expected <FD c0 r1>

Thanks for that lightbulb but had already Resignatured and rescanned before posting but the problem was never that the ESX could not see the disk/LUN it was that the link between /dev/sdf1 and 46f93ef7-7539f303-1457-0016358244b0 was broken leaving me unable to use the volume

Within VC if I go to add storage it presents the volume in the list but insists on deleting it's contents in order to initialiase it.

I need to mount /dev/sdf1 as 46f93ef7-7539f303-1457-0016358244b0 thats all.

Hello,

Not sure this will help but give Recovering VMFS partitions with VMware ESX troubleshooting a read. If the filesystem is corrupt this may help.
