RDMs and Multiple Guest OSes on the same physical host.

Hi All,

Can we use RDM for the same LUN from 2 different Guest OSes on the same physical host running VMware ESX Server ? I am using a different SCSI controller for the device than the root disk for the Guest Solaris OS. And the SCSI controller being used for RDM has "Physical" Sharing enabled.

When I try to add the RDM device to the second Guest OS, it doesn't power on saying "Operation failed due to concurrent modification by another operation". The first Guest OS at this time is powered on and using the RDM devices.

Any help would be great..

This type of access requires a quorum drive and cluster services.

Clustering would follow in my setup. But VMware doesn't currently allow me to add the RDM device at all. Is that expected? I would eventually have a cluster which would take care of reservations etal..
