RDM backup

Hi Friends

I just saw a discussion saying that we can take the snapshots and backup of RDM in Virtual mode . That is right. But what if I am running a cluster across 2 physical hosts and using RDM in physical mode. I think we can only use virtual mode if both of the vm's which are using the RDM reside on the same physical host. Is is possible to use the virtual mode RDM for a cluster across multiple physical hosts? I think it is not possible because VMware says no to that. Any way I have been looking a solution for that. If someone is having a physical mode RDM and is taking the snapshots please help me?

Thanks

Hello,

You are confusing Virtual SCSI Bus Sharing and Virtual RDMs. They are quite a bit different.

MSCS Clusters require Physical RDMs, so no that type of backup will not work. But yes if you have a RDM in Virtual Mode you can use snapshots on it to backup using most VMDK backup tools.
