RDM Lun extension

Hi All,

In our Esx3, the windows server 2003 VM has 2 virtual hard drives:

Disk1) Boot disk - vmdk virtual disk (C Drive)

Disk2) Data disk - raw device mapping to LUN on SAN (F Drive)

The Raw Mapped LUN is only an additional data partition of the file server.

Q1) Do I need to shut down the Windows VM before growing the LUN on the SAN which is the HDD2 above?

Q2) Do you know by any chance if the extension of a RAID6(ADG) Logical Drive on an HP MSA1500 is destructive or not?

Q3) Do I need to do any remove/reattach or refresh on Esx after the LUN extension?

Many thanks

Deniz

Hello,

1) Yes, I would to be absolutely safe. I would also backup the RDM.

2) It should not be, but you have your backup just in case. You may wish to contact HP directly for assistance.

3) No need to remove/reattach just 'rescan' the SAN on your ESX servers.

Best regards,

Edward
