RAW Disk Mapping - Virtual / Physical Conversion?

Hi All,

I setup a VM a little while ago with a base disk and also an additional disk which I configured as a "Raw Disk Mapping". When I configured the new drive with the wizard in VC, it asked me if I wanted to configure the disk as a Virtual Disk or a Physical Disk. The wizard stated that if I configured it as a virtual disk it could be included with snapshots etc...

At this point I configured it with physical access.

What I would like to do now is convert the disk to a virtual disk, so I am wondering if there is a way to do that?

Kind Regards, Nick.

Shutdown the Virtual machine and delete the RDM. Then add the RDM to the Virtual machine in Virtual compatibility mode and start your VM. You should be good.

Hi Lightbulb,

Thanks very much, the procedure you outlined above worked perfectly and the drive is now configured as virtual and all the data is exactly the same with no loss.

Cheers, Nick.
