Problems installing esx 3.01 on Sun X4600

We had issues installing ESX 3.01 on a Sun X4600 (8 dual core, 32GB ram)

The install went into a loop during loading of scsi drivers. The fix I found was to use the "esx noapic" on the welcome screen of ESX.

Now there is a warning upon boot, that says that apic is turned off, and that this is not recommended.

What impact does this have on the system?

I don't want to put the server in production until I know what this does with the server.

The server was updated with the latest firmware/bios from Sun's webpages prior to installing ESX 3.01

Yes, but I only searched on stuff regarding X4600's.. 😕

Thanks for the link!

From what I read, it seems that this is a real performance killer!

Can anyone comment on this?

I encountered this problem today as well on my new X4600. Any word on a fix for this box?

Haven't heard or read anything more about this. Smiley Sad

The server seems to be running fine. But since the server is so powerful I don't know if I have a performance issue.
