Problem with snapshots on Guests with multiple datastores - VI 3.01

Hi,

I'm using VI 3.01/ VC 2.01 and i'm having the following problem:

My guests use 2 virtual disks (DATA and OS), which are stored on separate LUNs of a HP EVA 4000 SAN.

But... When I create a Snapshot, Virtual Center shows both vmdk's as being on the same datastore!!!

Is this a VC display bug, am I missing something, or is hell breaking loose?

Thanks!

Not a bug, this is just how snapshots work at the moment. By default the delta files for all[/b] VM disks go in the VM's config file directory, regardless of which LUNs the .VMDK files being snapshotted are placed on.

Annoying if you've seperated DATA and OS LUNs for performance reasons I know.

You can reconfigure where the snapshot files are placed, but you cannot specify different locations for different disk snapshots - i.e. you could place all snapshot delta's on your DATA LUN, but not one on the OS LUN and one on the DATA LUN.

Also have a read of the following KB.

Hi you need to dismount one of your disks, rename the disk then remount it, then both datastores will show up. As I understand it it is because they have the same name. This is a bug and will hopefully be addressed. Also if you have a paging file disk this should be made persistant.
