Ping Unknown Host..?

Hi, When I try to ping a host on my network by host name / FQDN I receive the "ping: unknown host"... But I can ping by IP address and I have no idea what could be causing this in ESX. BTW I can ping the same host by name from my windows box...

Cheers

Make sure your DNS server(s) are correct on the ESX box. You are pinging from the ESX box right?

Yeah, I have checked from both the VI client and the configuration file...

From your ESX server, can you ping the DNS servers IP address?

...and if you use nslookup?

I think I have worked it out...

I can ping the DNS server by name and nslookup them. I think the problem is due to crappy old WINS name servers!!!!

There is no method of utilizing WINS in ESX is there?

How did you solve this problem? I am able to use nslookup, but not ping to resolve a hostname.
