Update Manager installs 401 first, followed by 408 and then the rest in order through 413. Then it installs the October 3 patch.

My VC is still 2.0.2. Iam installing ESX 3.5 U2 on two hosts independant of VC until lI upgrade it next week. So I wil lbe installing the patches manually.

I understand. However, since patching works without issues when I've done it using Update Manager, I've followed the same order for manually patching. I know that 408 is required for several of the patches.

Hello,

As long as these hosts are not part of the cluster you can still install VUM on a server and get the benefit of its use. It does not necessarily need to be the VC server.

Thanks for everyone's quick responses. I will eventually be installing VUM, but not right now...
