P2V

I am trying to P2V a phyiscal machine to an ESX host using VMware Converter. I can get all the way to destination datastore then I receive an error message saying unable to find server.

Any feedback would be appreciated thanks

Is the physical machine a windows machine? If it is make sure the Windows Firewall Service is not running -

The windows firewall service is not running, also this is windows 2003 web server. Should I check anything else?

Make sure your DNS is correctly configured. That your long and short name resolve correctly to the IP address, and that you have permissions to the datastore.

I would also suggest to disable or unload Antivirus.

Symantec seems to allow me P2V,

Trend Micro would cause problems occasionally.

On the dns side is it the physical machine or esx host?

You could also install VM Converter on the source machine itself. That seems to alleviate issues with firewalls and connections to the source from the VM Converter system.

Both. The physical host will need to be able to resolve and connect back to the esx host which it is being converted on to.
