Over the WAN?

Hey all, Let me run this by you.

I have a customer that has 2 sites.

The sites are connected by a VPN over a WAN link (Cable)

They have an ESX server at each site with only local storage. Each server has 2 VM's on it (this is a small bank)

My question is this: is there anyway to do any type of HA or Failover with the current config? I don't think so but i an looking for some advise.

Thanks in advance

Nick

There's no way to do that as HA requires a shared storage.

This is basic Geo-Cluster.

Get help from soe real guru's for that though.

Hint: They are not cheap Smiley Wink

If the WAN link is fast enough you can replicate the VMs or synchronize the storages.

Then you can do a "poor man's" HA by starting the VMs when the other site goes down.

Alright..another dumb question that I should know...what is the best way to replicate of sync the stores?

That depends on the storage vendor.

Ekh... pardon my French but...

We are talking about Customer, right?

Not your private network running ove Dynamic IP, right?

Syncronization IS done by Geo-cluster. All other methods are mirroring of the data like in Raid0 so filelock on database will be an issue if there is a critical application. Additionally, what would happen if WAN link is down?

My suggestion still stands and all other solutions are for lab purposes only Smiley Wink

Anyway, good luck!
