This error is completely unrelated to VMware, it's a problem with Oracle configuration.

Maybe this can help you: http://www.cryer.co.uk/brian/oracle/ORA12560.htm

Thanks for reply.

but if same OS and oracle configuration works on physical machine then why they are not working on virtual machine. how can we say that this problem is related to Oracle.

If you've got this error - then configuration is not the same. Check all again - you probably missed something in Oracle configuration, maybe in Windows network configuration.

As mentioned before this is NOT a vmware issue. Oracle runs fine under VMware.

Did you open tcp port 1521 on your firewall?

Can any body tell me that

DO we require anything special about network ,service, ports to run oracle 8i on vmware esx 3.5 virtual machine.

Nothing special is needed for a plain jane setup of Oracle, the setup is exactly the same virtual as physical.

Have you cloned physical servers with Oracle, and not received the same problem? Are you running a customization along with the conversion?

I meant, have you cloned physical to physical before to validate that it wouldn't cause problems with that type of conversion? The same as you're seeing right now. Doing P2V conversion is similar to a physical to physical. The only thing that is really changing is the physical vs virtual hardware. All else is the same. Make sure you've removed all references to your old network interface which is no longer valid on ESX's vm. Make sure that your listener is bound to the new interface.
