Newbie question about VIC Navigation bar

Hello!

We have a newly installed ESX server and I activated the license yesterday. I am new to VMWare and have today managed to install a virtual W2K3 server. Now I would like to make a template from this server but I seem to be missing a lot of icons in the navigation bar. I do not have the option to "Convert to template" in the Commands box.

I am lost here. What do I need to have these options?

Best regards

You need Virtual Center in order to create a template. Do you have a Virtual Center Server or are you just using the VI Client to connect directly to the ESX host?

To create a template:

Have you got a VC server? VC is required to use templates or cloning.

Ok. I use a VI Client to connect to the ESX server.

I don't have a Virtual Center Server.

Maybe I should get used to install all my servers from CD.

When I try to download Virtual Center Server it says I don't have the correct license.

Thank you for your answers.

You do not need VC to clone a VM.

Simply copy the folder, and re-register the VM.

It will ask if you want to create a new UUID, say yes.

Now you have a copy/backup of your VM. Like magic.

thanks
