Networking problems with new setup

I've setup a new system and have a couple questions that have been bothering me and can't find answers to.

ESX server #1 has a Service Console at 172.25.10.1 and this is the physical box's IP address.

I've got an iSCSI box on it's own subnet/switch (vSwitch1) using 192.168.x.x address and it's attached through a switch to two ports on each ESX box.

What I don't know is what to use and where to put the gateway on this vSwitch1.

Sorry if this question seems basic, but it's my first kick at setting up a system.

Thanks,

Rob

Hello,

Are you talking about the default gateway? In that case the default gateway stays with the first SC port. You do not need to setup any 'gateway' for anything on vSwtich1. Your vmkernel gateway stays with VMotion.

You should be able to ping and vmkping your iSCSI host, that is all you need to get this to work.

Thanks for your reply!

I was talking about the gateways in general and not knowing where they should point. The SC default gateway is the IP of the ESX box - 172.25.10.1.

The Vmotion VMkernal has a gateway set to the domains gateway - 172.25.10.20. Should this even be filled in, or left blank?

On vSwitch 1 the iSCSI SC gateway is set to the ESX box's IP - 172.25.10.1 while the iSCSI VMkernal gateway is set to the domains gateway. Am I able to remove the VMkernal Default Gateway's completely on this vSwitch?

Vmotion is enabled on vSwitch0 and not on the iSCSI VMkernal on vSwitch1.

Thanks,

Rob
